Our story began in late 2014, when we welcomed our very first Airbnb guests to the lower floor of our home. At that time, our son was only five weeks old – and our journey as entrepreneurs in Finnish Lapland had just begun.
Originally, we bought our property in 2013 simply as a home for our family – and for Anu’s horse. Back then, it was far from being a ranch. The yard was surrounded by dense forest, and the current horse stable was still just an old tractor hall.
Step by step, we shaped the place into something truly our own. The forest slowly gave way to horse paddocks and pastures, and the tractor hall transformed into a cozy stable, which expanded in 2015 to accommodate eight horses.
Some of our long-time guests might remember that our snow igloos were first located right on the horse ranch, with the warm basecamp in our home’s downstairs. Those early days were full of heart, hard work, and the spirit of adventure.
The Growth of Lucky Ranch
In 2018, we took another leap and bought a new lakeside property just one kilometer from the horse ranch. We named it Lucky Ranch Saloon – a place that has since become the heart of our operations. Over the years, it has served many roles:
the basecamp for our snow igloo experiences,
a private restaurant and café,
a summer venue,
a cross-country ski café,
and even a safari house for Arctic adventures.
Then in 2023, we made an unplanned but meaningful purchase – a family house right across the road from the horse ranch. The man who originally built and lived in that house was someone who helped us enormously in our early business years. For the past two winters, this home has served as accommodation for our wonderful staff.
Today and Tomorrow
We no longer rent out the downstairs of our family home, but we now host travelers in Lucky Ranch Cabins 3 & 4 and in Lucky Lodge, offering comfortable stays surrounded by Lapland’s wilderness and peaceful beauty.
From the very beginning, our goal has been simple: to offer authentic experiences of Pyhä-Luosto and life in Lapland. Even after ten years, that vision remains the heart of everything we do.
